It was originally designed as the Puerta de Tierra or Land Gate and was next to the town castle. Different constructions were added to the original opening, which changed its initial appearance, in the same way as with the Populo Arch. In the 17th century, the Blanco family built a chapel, which no longer exists, dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies, on the broad vault creating the passageway. The outside portico, with pointed arches, led on to the royal butchers’ yard, under which part of the rooms attached to the stage of the Roman theatre have been unearthed.
