Calle Ancha

Since the 18th century, the street known as Calle Ancha has been the hub of the city.  At the time of the 1812 Cadiz Parliament, it became the place to go to get all the gossip about what was going on in the parliamentary sessions, as Benito Pérez Galdós depicts in his work. Its width also allows the harmony of the urban area to be best appreciated.
As regards its buildings, special mention must be made of the Church of La Conversión de San Pablo at No. 34, the Mansion of the Mora family at No. 28, and the House of the Five Trades (Cinco Gremios), which currently houses the Chancellor’s Office of Cadiz University, at No. 16.
